Pramono Checks Progress on Bekasi Tengah Irrigation Canal Dredging

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inspected the Bekasi Tengah Irrigation Canal in Cakung, East Jakarta, on Monday (7/7) to ensure that flood control and water management efforts in the area are running optimally.

"...it is a top priority,"

Pramono stated that dredging canals, especially in border areas, is one of the top priorities in addressing flooding in Jakarta.

"The point is, I have decided that dredging along the outskirts of Jakarta must be carried out immediately, as it is a top priority," he emphasized.

He explained that the irrigation canal was originally built by the central government to prevent flooding and provide a water source. Over time, however, the responsibility for its maintenance shifted to the Jakarta Provincial Government to address recurring flood issues.

The dredging of Bekasi Tengah Irrigation Canal in Cakung spans 5.3 kilometers, passing through three urban villages, namely Ujung Menteng, Cakung Timur, and Cakung Barat. It falls under the Citarum River Basin Development Authority.

In 2025, several dredging activities are planned along the Bekasi Tengah Irrigation Canal or PAM inspection. These include dredging Segment A, from East Flood Canal to Metland Ujung Menteng housing gate.

This dredging was carried out from February 12 to May 19, 2025, by removing a total volume of 5,753 cubic meters of sediment over 1,100 meters in length.

Dredging for Segment B, from Metland housing gate to Cakung Drain River, is currently underway. It is expected to remove 10,147 cubic meters of sediment over a 4,200-meter stretch.
